Our Beginning

In 2018, Black Family Scholar, Inc began as a podcast hosted by founder Christin Haynes, M.S.W. By encouraging community members, researchers, and practitioners to converse about salient issues connected to the Black family, the podcast became an anti-silence platform by discussing the historical significance of slavery had on family functioning. Using information accumulated from her doctoral studies in Family Science and Human Development at Montclair State University, it was important to translate research findings for non-academics and the general public.

“NO one can tell our story better than we can.In a society that does its best to devalue Black experiences, we must resist learned behaviors that silence ourselves”

— christin haynes M.S.W, FOUNDER

In 2019, Haynes extended the vision of the podcast into a 501c3 organization with a greater mission to support the conscious cultivation of cultural values that facilitate holistic family functioning.
